"Temper: Deference," by Lila Mina
Erotic Paranormal LGBTQ+ Romance
For readers looking for a scorching dark paranormal romance filled with intrigue, drama and emotions.
To recover from a terrible assault that shattered her life, Lana Martin has poured all her energy into her international career and is now a workaholic consultant based in Tokyo.
Domineering martial arts instructor Honda has a terrible secret. He needs to find someone who will submit to him, no questions asked. Someone strong enough to handle his raging and spiraling needs that endanger his wife Yuki.
Hot-tempered and sharp-witted Lana is the perfect match and he picks her to become his submissive. Not one to turn down a challenge that allows her to tread into the waters of her deepest desires, Lana accepts his indecent proposal.
To her surprise, their affair spreads like wildfire and lits another blaze, this time between Lana and the sophisticated socialite Yuki. At first unsure about her own desires, but unable to ignore the strong pull she feels toward Yuki, Lana embraces what the couple offers her.
But for Lana, Honda’s extreme demands do more than meet her darkest desires. Something inside her is triggered and stirs. Something that will slowly eat her from within and that threatens them all. A two-edged sword, the trio’s fiery passion will either destroy them or be the key to their salvation.
Temper: Deference is the first book of the Temper trilogy and ends with a cliffhanger. It continues with Temper: Dread and ends with Temper: Deliverance. It features a trio who ends up founding a polyamory family.
Hot mama, y’all… this week’s read was utterly phenomenal. It also left me with some major grabby hands because Temper: Deference by Lila Mina is book one in a trilogy… and it ends with a gotta-know-more cliffhanger. 😱💕
I’m not sure where to start with this review. Mina’s eloquence and handle on the writing craft is splendid. She has an enchanting ability to create characters who both jump off the page and suck you in all at once. Plus, her rich world building had me in Tokyo. I’ve never been, but after reading this novel, I feel as though I have.
Then there is the story itself. I will absolutely be continuing this series because it is engaging, unique, and filled with heart. There were so many unexpected yet beautifully presented surprises in the plot. Things I didn’t even know I wanted to see happen until they did. And the progression of Honda, Lana, and Yuki’s relationship is so well done. Nothing feels rushed or insta-anything. The emotions are raw and real, and the passion is off the charts.
I would absolutely recommend this to all lovers of romance, but most especially those who enjoy a little more depth and diversity to their love stories. This one contains satisfying and well-developed elements of BDSM, polyamory, and interracial romance with a gorgeous Tokyo, Japan backdrop.
Until next time,
